National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is predominantly the vanguard of space technology and exploration of our planet. Established in 1958 by the former US President D. Eisenhower, it is the first organization to have send astronauts to the surface of moon. Even since its formation, it has perpetually researched on the following regions:

  • ISS: NASA along with four other space agencies Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA have deployed the International Space Station in the low-earth orbit which is a habitable satellite. NASA is working simultaneously on a diverse variety of fields whose developments can prove to be revolutionary. They are mostly related to astrobiology, space research and life sciences, astronomical discoveries, weather forecasting, material or physical science. The preponderant reason of keeping humans at the International Space Station is to observe their capacities and determine whether humans can embark on even longer missions. NASA is ambitious about round-trip journeys to an asteroid and Mars. Furthermore, ISS is the perfect testing ground for exploration technologies like autonomous refueling of spacecraft, advanced life support systems and human/robotic interfaces.

 

  • Orion spacecraft: This spacecraft is touted to be the most advanced, futuristic and multiplexed rocket ever designed by NASA. It is being prepared enthusiastically to carry four astronauts to missions beyond the moon.

 

  • Asteroids: The development of Asteroid Redirect Mission, will make it NASA’s first-ever mission to identify, capture and redirect a near-Earth asteroid to a stable orbit around the moon. This is the spot which the astronauts will explore it in the 2020s, hoping to return with valuable samples.

 

  • Pluto: The New Horizons spacecraft flew by Pluto in July 2015, and it startled the world with the closest possible views of the dwarf planet till date. The primary aim of this mission is to find answers about Pluto, its moons, and Kuiper belt objects. In fact, this mission has been successful in finding icy mountains on Pluto and gave a crisp view of its largest moon – Charon. This leads to speculations about powers geological activity on icy surfaces. The discovery of flowing ices on Pluto is another significant achievement.

 

  • Jupiter: The Juno spacecraft, which reached Jupiter in 2016 can answer some of the most mystical questions scientists are craving to ask. Its goal is to understand origin and evolution of Jupiter. It also aims to look for solid planetary core, undergo mapping of magnetic field, measure water and ammonia in deep atmosphere, and most importantly observe auroras. This will determine the nature of magnetism and associated phenomena.

 

  • Saturn: Huygens probe had landed on Saturn’s moon Titan in 2005. The Cassini spacecraft has an extraordinary achievement of studying the ringed planet Saturn and its moons with finest details. There are documentations about the formation of a small icy object within the rings of Saturn that could supposedly be a new moon. There is a possibility that it may also engender hints to the formation of the planet’s known moons. Cassini spacecraft and Deep Space Network together have successfully uncovered evidence about Saturn’s moon Enceladus. It has been found that Enceladus harbors a large underground ocean of liquid water. Space telescope: James Webb Telescope has been deployed as the successor of the Hubble Telescope which explored the universe for 25 years discovering innumerable significant information about stars and heavenly bodies. Since its launch in 1990, Hubble’s mind-blowing images have changed our understanding of our universe, but also changed where we see glimpses of our universe in everyday life.
