Free 504 words Essay on Punctuality for School and college students.
There have been numerous great and well-known people who have denounced the utility of punctuality in life. Evelyn Waugh once said, “Punctuality is the virtue of the bored”. According to the great writer Oscar Wilde, “I am always late on principle, my principle being that punctuality is the thief of time”. However relevant and familiar these quotes may sound to the average person, punctuality may be a boon in various different spheres of life.
Most people find it very difficult to be punctual and on time. Imagine the trouble a student has on reaching a class on time during a very cold and windy winter mornings. However, life is full of very difficult circumstances that need to be overcome. There is no easy way or shortcut to succeed in life. Keeping this in mind, it becomes essential to understand how punctuality is a very important factor in producing a disciplined individual. Punctuality fosters discipline and the love for rules in an individual from a very early age. In fact, punctuality and discipline may be regarded less as qualities in an individual and more as habits that have been developed and inculcated over a long period of time. Thus, by putting the effort into it being punctual one may be able to develop this skill.
On developing this skill through a lot of hard work and perseverance, people can lend their lives with meaning and purpose. It is a great joy and happiness that is felt when something is achieved through a lot of effort and work. The secret to success in life may be considered to be one-half talent while the rest is hard work. In fact, nothing may substitute hard work and discipline in this success formula. One of the major elements of hard work is to be punctual. Without punctuality, hard work can never have any final outcome. A presentation or assignment submitted after the deadline of the work is still useless, whatever the amount of effort that has been put into making it. Thus, in order to see final results, it is necessary to combine hard work with a certain amount of punctuality and discipline.
Thus, punctuality should be a trait fostered in children from the very beginning. Most children should be properly disciplined in the initial stages of life because as time goes by it becomes more and more difficult for human beings to become used to these habits. However, by being disciplined one should never take away the fun from a child’s life. It is essential to strike the correct balance between fun, creativity, enjoyment and discipline. Thus, it is the work of a good school to strike this perfect balance. This type of a balance becomes a key factor in developing an individual who is smart, successful and wise in life. It will be helpful not only in the future for many different career options but also in learning and understanding some of the deeper lessons that life has to offer an individual.
