Aim of the campaign

With the launch of this scheme, the objective of government was to curb problems related to female foeticide and education. Under the objective, key elements of the scheme includes nationwide awareness campaign. The campaigns are conducted to induce mindset change in people through training, raising awareness and importance of educating girl child. There are two main objectives of the scheme which are preventing female foeticide and promoting education of girl child. It was an joint initiative that was taken by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

When it comes to women, issues like illiteracy, inequality, sexual harassment, female infanticide etc are lead to lack of progress amongst woman. The program or scheme was started with well framed campaign and focused on 100 districts that had poor child sex ratio. In 2011, it was found that there was lot of decline in CSR with 918 girls for every 1000 boys. This led to the initiative and launch of this campaign.

Objective of the Scheme

“Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme has three primary objectives as implemented by the awareness campaigns.

(a)Prevent female infanticide

One of the major causes of steep decline in the CSR is female infanticide and discrimination between girl and boy child. Under this scheme, the district authorities need to monitor villages and ensure that there is no sex determination test conducted in any hospital. There is awareness campaigns where parents and families are educated to not go for the test and embrace girl child happily in family.

(b)Protection of Girl Child

The scheme ensures well being, protection and security of girl child after their birth. With many schemes, government is ensures well being of girls. With options like Sukanya Samriddhi, parents or legal guardian can open a small savings account for girls. A small contribution is needed for 14 years and the next 7 years, one will be able to earn interest on it.

  1. c) Educating Female Child

One of the major discrimination in India is female education. The scheme spreads awareness and campaigns to educate female girl child so that they grow up to become self empowered. The district level officials educate people with importance of girl education and also free elementary education is provided to girls of underprivileged family. The aim is to spread 100% education and literacy amongst female.

There is positive impact post the implementation of this scheme as there is increase in CSR. More families are welcoming girl child happily with all the advantage and benefits. There is increase in education level as well after implementation of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme.

We often talk of equality in all fields of life. For the economic and social development of a nation equality is of utmost importance. Equality should not be limited to caste, creed religion. It should be for gender as well. In this modern world there is still discrimination between a girl and a boy. A mother giving birth to a new born girl is looked down upon. It is very sad and disheartening to know that girl fetus is aborted before they are even born. What is the fault of the tiny bundle which has come in this world? When we say bundle of joy , does it apply to both girl and boy or only the privileged boys?
Earlier days it was believed that a daughter after marriage stays with her in-laws so may not look after her parents. Gone are those days, times are changing now. It has been proved time and again that girls are more responsible. With adequate education they can stand on their own feet. Look after themselves as well as support their parents too. It is rightly said by someone that when you educate a boy only one person is educated, whereas when you educate a girl an entire family is educated.
Women are seen to Excel in all the fields. They perform every duty efficiently. Girls should be given an equal and fair treatment. Don’t cut their wings before they can even learn to fly. When a farmer plants a seed he waters it, nurtures it looks after it till a crop is grown. When he can show such patience for a crop, why not for a girl child? A child who is new to this world, who has just stepped in an alien environment where we need to guide her and support her. With love, care and affection she can be the support system for her family. A girl should not be considered an obligation but a valuable treasure .Girls are more affectionate and psychologically attuned with their parents. Women are excellent at multi-tasking work. They are best examples of work life balance in the society. Nowadays many working women take care of house hold work, upbringing of their children at the same time financially support their family. Indian women like Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams have reached space; still our society thinks woman is a liability. The time has come to change this thinking and move forward.
Recent population survey shows that the number of boys in the Nation is more than the number of girls. If the same trend continues, this situation will cause tremendous problems in the society. Can a society survive without Women? On one hand we call our beloved Nation as Bharat Mata; on the other hand women are looked down upon, ill treated. How can this behavior be justified? Unless we change our way of thinking we cannot progress and prosper as a developing Nation.
Let us make a new slogan:
    Nayi Soch, Nayi Pehchaan
    Beti Hai Hamaari Jaan.

.there are many in this world who dreams they had a daughter or a sister of their own, yet God didn’t blessed them with one… These little beauties brings fortune to our homes, a live image of Goddess Luxmi. On the other hand, it can be a condition where your daughter or sister etc can bring fame to your home by becoming the next Sunita Williams, Sania Mirza, Sania Nehwal, Geeta or Babita Phogat and most importantly she can be like our beloved Late Kalpana Chawla. Why do people consider them as a burden? Why don’t these people love them?

Hi. The campaign started off by Modi sir is incomplete according to me. Like as the caption states to initiate with saving a girl child and educating her. But even after having received her education and being saved from the fate of female foeticide, its her in-laws that kill that girl after her marriage for either dowry reasons or having produced a girl child. My question what does Modi sir have to say for this. Isnt it the need of hour to declare dowry or domestic harrasment on daughter-in-laws as a severe crime and such families should be punished to death for having spoiled the life a girl!?

Good decision after long measures. Will this work, previous government had made
many acts but no effect. People should support this. jai ho..

  7. gopalkirshna says:

Modi rightly pointed out we have no right to kill girls in the womb or after coming out. Girls are a creation by mothers. ”Writers have right to write books but they have no right to destroy them or ask others to destroy his books since they are also called creations. One author in south did that and he should be punished suitably.”
