Consequences of World War 2

World War 2 was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was majorly an extension of World War 1, involving virtually the whole world. It led to the formation of two opposing military alliances – the Allies and the Axis. It was the largest or the bloodiest war which incurred almost 50 million to 85 million deaths.

The Second World War is said to have begun on 1st September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany and subsequent declaration of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. In a series of campaigns and treaties from 1939 to early 1941, Germany conquered much of continental Europe making an Axis Alliance with Italy and Japan. The Allies Powers were formed by– France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union and, to a lesser extent, China. With lots of invasions and defeats occurring in the subsequent years, the war in Europe finally concluded with the invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union, leading to unconditional surrender by Germany on 8th May 1945. This was followed by dropping of atomic bombs by the United States on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August respectively, because of Japan’s refusal to surrender. Finally, with the surrender of Japan, and the total victory of Allies on 15th August 1945, the war in Asia ended. The atomic bombing changed the way the United States was looked upon, making the United States a World Power.

World war 2 was the most heinous crime ever in the history of humanity. And now I heard that they are expanding the World War 2 Museum. First, they wasted so much money and precious human lives on the war and now they are wasting more money on this museum to make people remember of such bad memories. Shame!

    • Connie Bascle says:

We should all be very interested in preserving the history of war for “those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it”. This museum is amazing and will teach our children things they are not learning in school!

    • Teresa says:

It’s called history. What do you find so wrong with a museum that is informative, interactive and honors the members of our military who fought to protect the world?

      • Maria Luthansa says:

First, I don’t have any problem honoring Vets. I am one. It is becoming the museum that ate New Orleans. Perhaps it is time to move on.

    • Abbie Rose says:

It’s called educating adults and children alike about what has happened in the past. As they say those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it. It’s also celebrating the men that at the age of 17 or 18 went and fought for us. Many of who lost their lives. The museum is proud the celebrate our WWII vets as well as all our vets for 365 days a year. I don’t see that as a bad thing ever.

      • Maria Luthansa says:

Seems we must be slow learners given the 100,000 plus American dead in military actions since WWII. Perhaps we’re glorifying it.

        • Abbie Rose says:

I think you’re missing the point of my comment. It’s a job creating place that educates children , and brings tourists to Nola. So it helps the economy of this city. Many patrons have come from all over the world just to see the museum. As a vet you can get in to see what a wonderful museum it is cheaper than others. I think it’s great that we have museums to educate anyone that wants to learn.

          • Maria Luthansa says:

No, I get your point. But when is big enough, big enough? It is already the #1 tourist attraction in NOLA, one of the most unique cities historically in the world. Can you substantiate that it creates jobs proportionate with it’s size. At some point we are going to have a WWII Disneyland. Just because you have the money and can build something colossal, doesn’t mean you should or that it is in good taste. BTW, I loved it. But as regards the cost of war; the photo of one wife or mother dressed in black with a folded flag in her lap says a lot, too.

    • Kristy says:

That’s just ridiculous! Waste of money that could be better spent on fixing roads or feeding kids in school!

      • Ashley says:

Tell that to Tom Hanks. From what I understand he’s funding a very large part of the whole expansion.

        • Maria Luthansa says:

          Ashley source, please.

          • Ashley says:

I can’t find anything that shows actual amounts that he’s contributed. I did see on their website where it says that without him and Tom Brokaw the museum may not even exist. We hadn’t been since they started the expansion. When we went at the end of August I made a comment to one if the employees about the expansions and they told us that Tom Hanks had been extremely generous when it came to the expansion. I’ve also seen somewhere (can’t remember) that he is also a major fundraiser for the museum as well. USA Today maybe?

    • Abbie Rose says:

The museum is non-profit and does not get tax dollars. So saying that money could fix roads or feed kids , you’d have to talk to donors about where they are donating to. It’s a great place to learn about history and many school groups from all over the country come to see it. Educating children and adults alike is very important. So not a waste of money , unless you think education is a waste.

  2. Robert says:

We commend the Victorious US army, they fought for Liberation against Tyrrany and Oppression, they restored Freedom and Democracy. If Japan Imperialism and German Nazism were to rule the World there would be hundreds of millions of Genocide, Cultures would be erased, Spoken Truth would be found only in secret societies, only a handpicked people will be allowed to live. Thanks to the Supreme God he chosed America to be our Pillar of Liberty.

    • Jerickzkie says:

Americans are the most dangerous rebels. They dug a huge and deep hole that fits the size of a country and then they stored gasoline underneath it. i will not tell you where but it is in north america it was from 1980s, until now. It is almost full. Americans know that there will be a shortage of gasoline And when that time comes. They will sell it at a high price and they can controll all nations. So shut up if u dont know that americans are planning to rule the world.
